Felt Suppliers

One of the BIG questions I am asked is about Felt. Felt! My favourite addiction!!

All of my patterns are made to fit on a basic "craft sheet" size of felt which is approximately 9x12in (22x30cm). There are three main kinds of felt you can find in sheets.

Acrylic - 100% man made fiber                                                                                                         Pros- Cheap, Easy to Find, Lots of colours    Cons- Sometimes too stiff to use, can be thin and   weak in spots, more likely to pill, made with plastics and lots of chemicals so not Eco friendly.

Wool Blend - Wool mixed with Viscose (aka Rayon)                                                                         Pros- Cheap to midrange price, Easy to Find, Good range of Colour, More Eco friendly than   Acrylic    Cons- Can be a bit thinner in places

100% Wool - Natural Fiber                                                                                                                 Pros- Thicker, Rarely has thin spots, Great range of Colours, Eco Friendly                                     Cons - more expensive than Acrylic or Wool Blend

My Favourite Suppliers

Australia

Winterwood - Gorgeous 100% wool felts. They have these hand dyed pieces that are just sublime. I love to use those when making animals because they colour isn't always completely solid and I get these cool, interesting patterns.

I used one of their hand dyed piece to make my Billy Goat and you can see the way the colour works to make his patch more natural looking.  If you live in Melbourne, it's well worth the drive to Warranwood to check out the shop.

They also have the Cutest crocheted baby booties!!

I used their glitter felt for my Little Reindeer.

Eckersley's -The only time I use Acrylic is when I am making samples or something to keep for myself and I need a certain colour quickly. There is an Eckersley's in my neighbourhood and they have a really nice selection of Acrylic sheets. Definitely the thickest, softest acrylic I have found.
